Boost Transformer

A transformer is an electrical energy conversion device based on the principle of electromagnetic
induction.Boost transformer consists of two insulated coils, a magnetic core, and an outer casing.

The magnetic core plays a crucial role in linking the turns of the primary and secondary windings.
By changing the number of turns between the primary and secondary coils, the transformer can
adjust the voltage.When alternating current flows through the primary coil, it generates an
alternating magnetic flux in the core, which then induces voltage in the secondary coil.

Using this principle, the input voltage is converted into a higher output voltage.
Boost transformers are widely used across various fields, such as power transmission and
distribution systems, communication circuits, electronic devices, and laboratories.

Specific applications include:

  ►Supplying high voltage to devices such as drainage systems and cathode ray tubes (CRTs)

  ►Power sources and amplifiers in communication technologies like telephone lines and radio
     communication systems

  ►Use connectors and isolators within communication and signal systems

The working principle of the boost transformer is based on electromagnetic induction. When
input voltage passes through the primary winding, it creates an alternating magnetic field in
the core. This alternating magnetic field induces a potential voltage in the secondary winding,
resulting in output voltage.

According to the electromagnetic induction voltage, the ratio of the output to the input voltage is
equal to the ratio of the number of turns in the secondary winding to that in the primary winding.

Therefore, by adjusting the turns ratio between the primary and secondary windings,
different levels of boosted output voltage can be achieved.

The main function of a boost transformer is to increase the input voltage to the required higher
level to produce the requirements of specific loads. Its main functions include :

a)  Long-Distance Power Transmission:
     By increasing the voltage in power lines, boost transformers help reduce energy loss during
     long-distance transmission.

b)  Power distribution :
     boost transformers raise the voltage to suitable levels for distribution across different regions,
     ensuring stable power delivery.

c)  Load adaptation :
     boost transformers adjust the output voltage according to the load demand, ensuring stable
     and efficient operation.

d)  Power Conversion :
      boost transformers convert input AC voltage to a higher output voltage, to meet the
      operating requirements of specific equipment.
