Isat and Irms?

What is the difference between Isat and Irms?

Isat (Saturation Current):

Saturation current refers to the current at which the inductance drops to a certain percentage of its nominal value.
Typically, the saturation current is defined when the inductance decreases by 20% to 30%.

Example:
When the inductance decreases by 20%,
the corresponding current is 5.0A, Isat = 5.0A

When the inductance decreases by 30%,
the corresponding current is 6.5A, Isat = 6.5A

Irms (RMS Current / Temperature Rise Current):

Irms that the rated current of the inductor in its application, also known as the temperature rise current.
It is the current at which the surface temperature of the inductor increases by a specified amount. (The temperature rise starts from an ambient temperature of 25°C.)

Example:
When the surface temperature rises to 40°C,
the corresponding current is 5.0A, Irms = 5.0A

When the surface temperature rises to 60°C,
the corresponding current is 6.5A, Irms = 6.5A
